“Has a nation ever changed its gods, though they are not gods at all?
Yet My people have exchanged their Glory for what is worthless.
Be appalled at this, O heavens, and shudder with great horror,” declares Yehovah.
“My people have committed two evils:
They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters,
and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water.”
Jeremiah 2:11–13
If a person does not know who Jesus Christ is, not only is the problem of sin left unresolved,
but it is also like continually pouring empty things into a broken cistern
that can never be filled.Though they have departed from Yehovah,
they offer vain worship and diligently strive to establish their own righteousness through their own zeal.
The people of the Old Testament era were saved by believing
that Yehovah was their Creator and Savior, and by looking forward in faith to the day
when He would come as a man and swallow up sin and death.
But people did not want to know Yehovah God in this way. Instead, they worshiped idols.
As a result, they exchanged the glory of God for what is not a god.
Even today, people do not want to believe that Jesus Christ is Yehovah God, the sole Creator,
nor do they wish to believe that He alone is the Savior who saves.
Instead, they believe in a God the Son who has supposedly existed from the beginning.
However, such a god does not exist in the Scriptures.
God alone exists from everlasting to everlasting, and His name is Yehovah.
People have forsaken that God, the fountain of living waters.Yet even today,
God stretches out His arms toward such people who have abandoned the fountain of living waters.
“Return to Me! Return to Me!” He cries.
“Go and proclaim this message toward the north:
‘Return, faithless Israel,’ declares Yehovah.
‘I will no longer frown upon you,
for I am merciful,’ declares Yehovah.
‘I will not be angry forever.'” Jeremiah 3:12
Jesus Christ is Yehovah God, the Root and the Offspring of David, and He came to give me eternal life.
Hallelujah!
