For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them:
but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
Hebrews 4:2
With whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned,
whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
And to whom did He swear that they should not enter into His rest,
but to those who were disobedient?
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Hebrews 3:17–19
Although the gospel was proclaimed, the people of Israel did not respond with “Amen,”
nor did they unite their hearts with the message in faith.
The Scriptures tell us that when the light is proclaimed, those in darkness reject it because they fear
that their evil deeds will be exposed. Their religious zeal has become their own righteousness,
making it difficult for them to let it go. Therefore, no matter how clearly the Scriptures are presented,
self-denial is nearly impossible for them.
The one LORD God led the people of Israel, yet they were not satisfied with the one true God.
Instead, they continually complained as they pursued their fleshly desires.
Even today, people are afraid that the righteousness they have built for themselves will be torn down.
So, even when the truth is proclaimed, they want to dismiss it and refuse to acknowledge it.
But just as heaven and earth do not change, neither does the gospel that God has established.
There is only one God, and His name is Jehovah. He came in flesh and blood,
and to give us undeniable proof worthy of our faith, He rose from the dead. Hallelujah!
